Abdullahi, his wife Amina, and their five children, currently rent a home overlooking Ruby Hill Park. While the view may be spectacular, the neighborhood has proved to be unsafe for their children and crime is of great concern for the family. But Abdul and Amina are all smiles when discussing their new home currently under construction in the Bails Townhome Community.
Sadia and her family moved to Denver from Africa ten years ago after enduring many years of moving from one tumultuous country to the next. Sadia’s son and niece still remember having to constantly move around in Africa, and have experienced more of the same with apartment rentals in the US. Sadia works hard to give her family a good life in Denver, and has worked as a case manager for the Somalian Community Center of Colorado for more than a year.
Vanessa and her daughter, currently live in a 2-bedroom apartment on the second floor of a Denver apartment complex. Her daughter has special needs and requires the use of a wheelchair to get around. This causes problems in their current rental because Vanessa has to carry her up and down a flight of stairs every time they go anywhere. The neighborhood is also unsafe, so they are unable to spend time outside of the apartment - which makes them feel stuck inside.
